We want Budgeter to work for everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation or magnification.

Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Accessibility is treated as part of building a feature, not a later fix.

What we have implemented

  • A skip link so keyboard users can jump straight to the main content.
  • Semantic headings, landmarks and lists throughout.
  • Every form field has a visible label or an accessible name.
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements.
  • Colour contrast tested against WCAG AA thresholds for text and controls.
  • Errors announced in text, not signalled by colour alone.
  • Icon-only buttons carry descriptive labels for screen readers.
  • Layouts that reflow to 320px width and support browser zoom.

Known limitations

Some calculator results update as you type; if your screen reader announces changes too frequently, the results are also fully readable after tabbing away from the inputs. We continue to refine this behaviour.
